Luciana Wiranto

Hello everyone! My name is Luciana Wiranto, and I’m excited to be your CLB 5/6 instructor at Centre for Newcomer Integration (CNI) at Red River College Polytechnic.

I grew up in Indonesia, a country comprised of hundreds of different ethnic groups with a wide variety of cultures. This background has taught me to be sensitive to various cultural, ethnic, and religious differences. I also lived in China for about two years while studying the Chinese language at Shenzhen University.

I graduated from a well-known Indonesian university with a bachelor’s degree in English literature and received my Canadian TESL certification from the University of Winnipeg. Since moving to Winnipeg, Canada, in 2016, I have taught adult newcomers in multilevel CLB classrooms at various educational institutions, including Altered Minds, River East Transcona Immigrant Services, and Red River College Polytechnic, as well as volunteered in an EAL class at Immigrant Centre and a faith-based institution.

As a Permanent Resident of Canada, I’m familiar with the cultural shock, challenges, and highs and lows that newcomers experience. I have the knowledge of and sensitivity to understand the settlement process for newcomers. Moreover, with over 20 years of experience as an EAL instructor, I’ve channeled my passion for teaching into developing and delivering meaningful lessons and implementing different teaching strategies to enhance the learning experiences of my diverse groups of adult learners. In short, I use my expertise to build a supportive and interactive learning environment to ensure that your learning experience is both comfortable and motivating. I believe that language learning is not just about grammar and vocabulary but also about understanding the culture and community that speaks that language.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy reading books, watching movies, and trying new foods. I'm also interested in learning about history and different cultures. Since coming to Winnipeg, I have had a chance to explore different places of this great city and province as well as travel to 8 provinces from coast to coast.

I look forward to getting to know each of you and helping you achieve your language goals. Together, let’s make this a great learning experience!
