Canadian English Mentor

English for Life Classes

Gaining confidence in real life situations.

Learn English OUTSIDE of the classroom while

meeting with other newcomers and Canadians.

Over 12 weeks, we will visit various locations around Winnipeg which will include tourist sites, shopping malls, and parks (weather permitting). At each event, there will be discussion questions within the group, conversation with employees, volunteers, and other people at that location, a reading and/or listening activity, and a writing exercise.

In the Shopping Malls, we will have conversation with each other, with store employees, and with other shoppers. When we are at the Park, we will play some games/ activities and share snacks as a potluck (people bring food to share - an appetizer/snacks, dessert, non-alcoholic drinks, or fruit)

* Those who Drop in or sign up for the 4 classes package will still need to pay entrance fees at Fort Whyte Alive ($12/adult) and the Leaf ($15). Fees for this program do NOT include food or souvenirs.

** practical topics will include Healthy lifestyle, getting scholarships/grants to study in Canada, finding a job, buying a vehicle or using the bus, personal finance, and renting/buying a house.

NOTE: These classes are not suitable for very low level speakers of English (CLB 1-2).

Teens who are age 14 or older may attend if accompanied by an adult. They will also be required to pay the participation fee (drop in or monthly membership as the 2nd person in the household). If two parents and a teen want to attend, then the third person will pay the same fee as the second person.

Parents should not bring their children under age 14 to these events. This is for adults to learn and practice their English skills. The only exception is when there are events in a park as families are welcome to attend those activities.
